The Sonata vs Elantra - October 5, 2017

If you're considering a Hyundai, but don't know how to settle on a particular model, it can be difficult to proceed. The best way to determine which model is right for you is to give the ones you're interested in a test drive. But if you're someone who likes to compare and contrast features, then a helpful comparison might be exactly what you need.

Consider the Sonata and Elantra. The Elantra features a 1.8-liter engine and the Sonata features a 2.4-liter engine. Both are backed by an automatic transmission.

The Sonata runs on regular unleaded fuel; the four-cylinder engine puts out 190 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 179 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. The Elantra has a smaller four-cylinder engine and it also runs on unleaded fuel. The 1.8-liter engine puts out 145 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 130 pound-feet of torque at 4,700 rpm.

Both vehicles features conveniences, including one-touch down windows, a driver and passenger vanity mirror, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, front and rear beverage holders and door bins, speed control, illuminated entry, an overhead console and remote keyless entry. The Sonata also features one-touch up windows and an emergency communication system.

Entertainment features on both include an MP3 decoder, CD player, sound system with six speakers and an AM/FM/SiriusXM radio. The Sonata also features Bluetooth and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

Safety and security features on both include traction control, electronic stability control, brake assist, ABS brakes, four-wheel disc brakes, a security system and panic alarm, dual front side impact airbags, an overhead airbag, occupant sensing airbags, and dual front impact airbags. The Elantra also features perimeter/approach lights.

As to lighting and display, both vehicles feature an outside temperature display, tachometer, a trip computer, delay-off headlights, front reading lights, a rear window defroster, variably intermittent wipers, and a low tire pressure warning system. The Sonata also features speed sensitive wipers.
